To Wordpress.com!

This post is also on my Wordpress.com site.

For some reason I have decided an orange represents this post lol.

Writing a blog post on my static website on Neocities, has became a bit of a task as of late. I have to:

  • Create the blog post HTML file
  • Update the title, date in the HTML (and try not to get the date wrong lol)
  • Write the blog post and then convert it to HTML, or write the blog post USING HTML
  • Create an image of some kind which represents the post
  • Update all the meta tags in the HTML
  • Add a link to the home page (and try not to get the date wrong lol)
  • Add a link to the blog index page (and try not to get the date wrong lol)
  • Do a find + replace across every page to update the “Recent Blog entries” section
  • Update the RSS feed (and try not to get the date wrong lol)
  • Publish
  • Do the trick which makes it appear as the main screenshot on Neocities
  • Deal with whatever way I currently add a comments block or link to the page (currently create a BlueSky thread and then add the link)

Lately I’ve been wondering.. is this all worth it?

Here’s the steps for adding a blog entry on WordPress.com:

  • Create the blog post using a WYSIWYG editor
  • Create an image of some kind which represents the post and upload it to the post
  • Add tags
  • Publish

And that’s it, the entire site is updated, RSS is done, comments are done, and it’s published. WordPress.com even pushes your post to other WordPress.com users (a bit), and notifies all your subscribers that you’ve posted.

What about your Neocities site?

…asked nobody. Thanks for asking, nobody!

Well, I still think Neocities is awesome, and my existing Neocities site will mostly remain unchanged.

But for the foreseeable future, my WP site is going to become my main site, including for blogging and linking to my projects and videos.

I am very grateful for the super fast, reliable and inspiring service Neocities had provided over the years.

And besides, it’s not the end of my Neocities site. I’ll still be using Neocities to host any static web projects I create.

So if anyone out there would like to continue reading my blog and be updated about new projects, be sure to subscribe on WordPress.com!

There’s also a good chance I’ll change my mind sooner or later. I do that.
